I installed the software and I noticed there was an update, which I proceeded to download. It has been my favorite software to edit my NEF files. Two days ago I found another update to Capture.
I proceeded to download the update and this time I got a window asking for my serial number. I have searched those places in our home where there could be a possibility of finding the software but it has not yielded any results. Then I got in touch with Nikon and explained to them what was happening to me. I had the instructions, a registration card, other literature, the receipt of sale, in short, everything that came to me from NY except the software that I have been unable to find.
I remember registering the software on line but Nikon says I did not. So far, I cannot open the program because I do not have the serial number to edit my files and it all seems as if Nikon cannot help.
If I buy the software again, I doubt it, I will make sure I write down the serial number and keep it in a safe place. I hate to say that has been the first time I have ever lost anything related to photography. I thought I was a little better organized than that. This has been like a slap on the face. Usually, people find such things when they least expect it and when it's too late but here's hoping you stumble upon it sooner than that.
Similar thing happened to me about ten years ago with a small piece of software that I downloaded for which I received the SN by e-mail which then magically disappeared. Since then I have been careful to write down serial numbers of every piece of equipment and software as soon as I bought them. William, Sorry to hear about the misplaced serial number! I believe we've all done that one or more times. It won't help right now to tell you what I do, or try to do anyway.
What may help is to point out that most of this time when this happens, the item was where we thought it would be.
But, it was in something we are used to seeing and have become immune to seeing it. Or it was behind, or in something it normally would not be. As you wrap up? Folks, this is not for everyone! William, I am not using mine. I don't think it's even installed on my Desk top. It may be installed on my machine down in what was my darkroom. If you would like, I'll uninstall it, and PM you the serial number. Bill Good hunting and don't give up!

I register all of my Nikon products on the Nikon website. Create an account, log on to the Nikon website and add all of your Nikon gear.
It will show all of your gear and software with serial numbers and in the case of software, the activation codes under the My Camera Bag tab. It is nice to have that option in the case of a hard drive failure or you misplace your product info and need the numbers for a reinstall or insurance purposes. Don't take my comments wrong, I'm trying to help.
Is this PC or Mac? PC, can you go back to a restore point so that the old version opens? MAC, do you have time machine set up? Jeff A said:. I went through this recently. I had to provide screen shots of the partial serial number that Nx2 shows a couple of phone call and emails later they sent me a new serial number and had me download the latest copy of nx2 to install it.
Being in Tech Support I get this type of call daily. In my line of work though it's usually busniess place of work where things get lost more easy. Typically we just require proof of purchase and we will reactivate it and if need be get a new serial number. I'm surprised you had the door shut on you with Nikon. I'm sure your not the only one that has done this.

Since then, I've also misplaced my CS4 serial number, as well as my Topaz bundle serial number.
For all three, all it took was a phone call and proof of purchase, and I received the serial numbers for NX and Topaz via email, and the serial number for CS4 was given to me over the phone.
Electromen I had everything registered there two years ago. I just signed in and it only shows one lens. Something has corrupted Nikon's data base. Butlerkid Cafe Ambassador Administrator. File is backed up just like my images. And I keep a printed copy in my file cabinet. I just pull out the hard copy. BTW - I keep a similar file listing all my camera equipment and serial 's.
But then - I'm more than a "little" anal I want to thank each and everyone of you that so kindly offered suggestions and made comments on this unfortunate incident. I hope it has served as a warning that it is very important to keep the serial number in a safe place.
On Saturday, while I was out of town, my son, who originally bought the software, called Nikon. A lady took his call and he explained to her what has happened.
